Morning gatherings

On a typical Sunday Morning we have gatherings at 8.45 am and at 10.30 am.  But check the home page before you come, in case we’ve planned something different.

The 8.45 gathering

Our 8.45 gathering lasts about an hour and is a quiet reflective service. It includes singing, prayers, and a 20-minute talk on a Bible passage.

After the talk, we share communion . Someone will come to where you sit with a tray of bread pieces and a tray of small cups containing fruit juice.  We do not use alcoholic wine.  Take one of each and consume them in your own time. The empty cups will be collected at the end of the gathering.

There is no separate provision for children at the 8.45 gathering

The gathering finishes at about 9.45 am.

After the gathering you are invited to join us in the foyer for refreshments. You will have the opportunity to meet those arriving for the 10.30 gathering.

The 10.30 gathering

Our 10.30 gathering is for the whole family. Everyone joins the start of the service and then under-18s leave for their age-specific groups. The meeting will typically include at least 20 minutes of sung worship, and the talk typically lasts about 30 minutes. The gathering usually finishes between 12  noon and 12.15.

Once a month (usually the 1st Sunday of the month) we share communion at our 10.30 gathering. The way we share communion varies from month to month and all will be explained at the time.  Sometimes this is while the children are still with us and sometimes after they leave. The leader will explain clearly what’s happening each time, so you won’t feel lost.

For those unable to attend in person, the 10.30 gathering is streamed live on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/goldhillbc  You might like to view previous gatherings to get a flavour of what goes on.  If you want to make sure that your face does not appear on YouTube, you should sit at the rear of the right-hand block of seats.

Sometimes at the 10.30 gathering we invite people to discuss a topic in small groups. This is entirely voluntary. If you are comfortable to chat, then turn to your neighbours to chat in a small group. Otherwise feel free to sit on your own for this part.

Before the gathering starts you are welcome to join us in the foyer for refreshments. You will have the opportunity to meet people who have attended the 8.45 gathering.

Common Questions

Is there a dress code?

No. There is no dress code or expectation. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in.

Will I have to say or do anything?

No — there’s no pressure at all. You’re welcome to observe, participate, or just sit quietly.

Do I need to bring any money?

No. All our gatherings include the opportunity to make a cash offering towards the work of the church. This is for those who are part of the church family and there is no expectation on visitors to give money.

Can I bring a pet?

We love animals, but for the sake of others, we kindly ask that you don’t bring pets to our gatherings. Assistance dogs are, of course, welcome.

What time should I arrive?

We suggest you aim to arrive about 5 minutes before the gathering starts.  Don’t worry if you are running late, you are still welcome.

Where do I go when I get into the building?

When you arrive, you will be greeted by a host. At the 10.30 gathering the hosts are called the Connect Team and wear blue shirts.  Tell them you are new, and they will be happy to show you round.

Is the building accessible?

Yes. All areas are wheelchair-accessible and we have accessible toilets, and a hearing loop. If you have specific needs, feel free to get in touch beforehand.

Children and Youth

“Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.”
Romans 15:7 (NIVUK)

We love having children and young people at our Sunday gatherings. We take safeguarding seriously, and we also understand that every child is different.

Our children and youth groups usually meet during the 10.30 gathering (but not when it’s an “all-age gathering“).  If you are planning to bring someone under 18, it is helpful (but not essential) if you can register them in advance.    When you arrive at the Hub, please check in your child or young person at the registration desk.

To register, click the button for your child’s age group

0–11s, Up to School Year 6

11–18s, School Years 7+

If your child has a disability or additional  needs, we’d love to talk with you in advance about how we can support them.

Between 15 and 30 minutes into the gathering children and young people will be invited to join their groups.  Parents should take their children to the appropriate group, all of which are upstairs.  There is a lift available for those who cannot manage the stairs.  To keep everyone safe, nobody is permitted upstairs during the gathering without a valid reason.  Please ask a member of the Connect Team to show you where your child’s group is.

At the end of the gathering (at 12 noon) please go upstairs to collect your child (if they are year 6 or below). If the gathering is continuing, then bring them into the auditorium.

If you are new to our Sunday gatherings, and if you would prefer your child/ren to stay with you, that is absolutely fine with us. We are delighted to hear baby noises during our gatherings!

If you would like a quieter private space to feed your baby during the gathering, please ask one of our Connect Team (in a blue shirt) to show you to our viewing room, where you can see and hear the gathering.

After the Gathering

We hope you enjoy your visit. If you would like to know more, please call by the reception desk (picture) where you can find out more about Gold Hill.

If you’re thinking of coming again, we’d love to stay in touch. Please fill in a contact card (available at the reception desk or online) and give it to a member of the Connect Team.

You can also follow us on Instagram or Facebook to get a feel for church life during the week.

Alternatively, you can fill in the online contact card. We will use the information you supply to make sure you receive ongoing information about the life of the church.

We would love you to become part of the church family – find out more about what that involves.

Sunday Evenings

Arrangements for Sunday evenings vary from week to week. Occasionally we will arrange an evening worship gathering. Details will be publicised on this site.
