PRAYER: WHAT WILL CHURCH LOOK LIKE AS WE EMERGE FROM LOCKDOWN?!
N.B. SUNDAY EVENING (ZOOM) PRAYER GATHERING: 8.15 – 9PM: join at goldhill.org/sundayprayer
As 21st June approaches, our thoughts are quite naturally turning towards greater freedoms/fewer restrictions in our daily living. During lockdown many of our priorities have shifted: we have come to value some things more highly, whilst other aspects of our lives have reduced in significance. What is God saying to believers as we emerge from this season? How might we reflect His presence, power and purpose more accurately and with greater impact to promote real Kingdom growth? Discussion groups at a UK-wide conference for Church Managers reflected on this earlier this week, and jointly proposed the following re-shaping of church:
• Less focus on the church building and structures and more on personal relations
• Both large and small gatherings – large not the only good/strong/real expression of church
• Simpler, more Christ-centred gatherings
• Strip back activities/distractions to release simpler experiences of Jesus
• Hybrid church here to stay: online is the new front door and will continue to be for some – enable those to believe and belong online before they’re ready to believe and belong onsite
• More community-oriented
• Spirit life have more focus than organisational strength
• Less of a clergy/lay divide
• More discipleship training than leadership training
• Decline in consumer Christianity and whole-life discipleship emerging
• Gospel confidence grows – less defensive about faith and welcoming dialogue
As we spend time in prayer this week, let’s join together with other believers around the country/globe who are earnestly seeking God’s direction for their personal and corporate lives in this new season:
Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to your glory – because of your love and faithfulness to us.’
