During the Summer Holidays our Sunday Mornings are going to look a little different. Dave explains the set up in this video. Note that the “self-service creche” will have a have a live stream from the main auditorium, so everyone can join in.
I’m here just to give you an invitation and a brief explanation for what’s going to be going on over summer at Gold Hill on Sundays.
We’re looking at the four Sundays in August and the first Sunday in September before the schools go back. We’re going to be doing some things a little bit differently and I want to explain that and invite you to join in.
The first thing to say is that the 8.45 gathering will be going on roughly as normal. There will be communion every week, there will be songs, there’ll be prayers, there’ll be some brief Bible teaching every week. That will be continuing pretty much unchanged.
The 10.30 though we’re going to be doing things a little bit differently. On some of those Sundays (the 7th of August the 21st of August and the 4th of September) we are going to be mostly all together. There will be a self-serve creche for people who are under the age of five. Self-serve in the sense that a parent or a carer or guardian needs to be alongside and with. There will be someone supervising that but you’ll need to be with those little ones.
For everyone else though we’re going to be together and we are going to be exploring the Bible together. We’ll be in in little groups discussing things – so a bit less of an emphasis on someone sharing from the front. Although it will be guided and feedback will be gathered and that will be led clearly from the front but the emphasis will be on us exploring the Bible together and on what God has to say through it. We’ll be asking and answering different questions about what it teaches us about God, or about people, or about promises that there are, or things that we can do as a result of what the scriptures are teaching us. I’m really looking forward to that.
On the other two Sundays, so that’s the 14th and the 28th of August someone will be giving a talk in the adult setting. For children all the way up to age 11 there will be age-specific groups going on in the building as well on those two Sundays but for the adults someone will be giving a talk, but again it will have moments for us to pause and ask some of those questions ourselves as we also listen to someone sharing and unpacking scripture with us and for us.
The passages and the themes that we’re going to be exploring on all these weeks all come from the book of Acts and they’re going to be looking at turning points – either turning points for individuals or for the whole church when God did something and things really turned around.
It may be that some of what I’ve shared you’re thinking, “oh that’s a little bit out of my comfort zone or I’m not that sure”. Can I encourage you to come and give it a go? I can assure you that you’re not going to be asked questions and grilled on things that you don’t know the answers to. You’re not going to be asked to share really personal information. It’s a chance for all of us to listen to what God is saying through scripture and to practise doing that together. So can I encourage you to come along to whichever part of that makes the most sense for you and I look forward to joining you and to what God is going to do!
