At the start of this year, we adopted the Fula Jalon people group – an unreached people group – as a prayer focus for the year, with updates coming a number of times during the year for us to focus our prayers. A lot has changed in the world since then, but we are continuing to pray. Here is an update to help us do that specifically this week.

One of the ways to see the Fula Jalon people come to follow Jesus is to see ‘Discipleship Making Movements’ started as small groups in the villages, usually with a key leader who has had a dramatic event or encounter which makes them more open to explore who Jesus is and what the Bible says about God.

This week we will take one principle from Discipleship Making Movements (DMM) and pray for the Fula Jalon of Senegal.

Day 1

In DMM, waiting on God is very important.

Proverbs 4:5, “Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them”

Father, you said that if anyone lacks wisdom they can ask for it. So we ask you to give your disciples wisdom. May your disciples be known for their wisdom and use it to impact the Fula Jalon peoples in Senegal. Holy Spirit, fill the workers in the harvest with your wisdom to know how, when and with whom to engage with to see many come to follow Jesus.

Day 2

Focus on the few to win the many.

Matthew 10:7-8, “As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.”

It is for freedom that you have set us free. Jesus empower our disciples to go out into their communities and heal the sick, cleanse the diseased, cast out demons and raise the dead as they freely give what they have been given. Lead your disciples to those who are open and curious to know more about God, and may many amongst the Fula Jalon have supernatural encounters with you.

Day 3

It is about discovery, not preaching or teaching

Acts 17:23, “For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.

Jesus, you have planted seeds in everyone’s heart to discover and enquire about the big questions of life. Please use the disruption, unemployment, health scares and sadness from Covid 19 to awakened seeds of curiosity in the hearts of the Fula Jalon peoples that they might have their eyes opened and discover more about who you are.

Day 4

Expect the hardest places to yield the greatest results

Ephesians 6: 10-12,18; 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

Father, you have given us “spiritual weapons of warfare” to bring down the enemy who fights against the Fula Jalon people. Today ask you to break down every wrong thought about Jesus in the minds.  May they follow Jesus and stand firm in the spiritual battle for the multitudes in West Africa.

Day 5

Disciple to conversion, not convert to make disciples

Acts 4:29-30, “Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”

The Fula Jalon are scattered throughout Senegal. There is no known DMM engagement among them. Ask God to do many signs and wonders among them so they may know God. Pray that these people will then be instrumental in engaging the other unreached people groups by starting small discovery bible studies in their homes.

If you want to receive daily messages with prayer prompts, you can sign up by adding the number 07593 365 431 to the contacts on your phone and sending a message to it on WhatsApp. This week, the prompts reflect those above. Other weeks they are about other things.
