Why Jesus?
At the heart of Christianity is not just a set of beliefs, but the astonishing announcement of good news: God’s kingdom has come near.
This message centres on Jesus Christ—not only a wise teacher or a historical figure, but the King sent by God to fulfill His great plan for the world. Jesus announced that in Him, God’s long-promised reign of justice, peace, and restoration was breaking into history. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus launched a movement that would one day renew the whole of creation.
Luke 17:20–21 (NIV UK)
Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst.”
We all sense that the world is not as it should be. Injustice, suffering, division, and despair remind us daily that something is broken. The Bible names this brokenness “sin”—our rejection of God’s rule and our attempts to build lives and societies apart from Him. Yet the story doesn’t end there.
God did not abandon His creation. He came in person.
Jesus lived a life that showed what God’s kingdom is like: healing the sick, welcoming the outcast, confronting evil, and embodying truth and grace. On the cross, He took upon Himself the full weight of sin and its consequences. In rising from the dead, He triumphed over death itself and began a new creation.
This is the gospel—the good news—not simply that we can be forgiven, but that God is restoring all things, and we’re invited to be part of that. Through Jesus, we’re called to turn from our old ways, trust in the King, and join His kingdom mission: to love God, serve others, and live as signs of His coming renewal.
John 14:6 (NIV UK)
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
Following Jesus isn’t about escaping the world or finding quick fixes. It’s about stepping into a much bigger story—a story of hope, of purpose, of God’s unstoppable love for His world.
So, why Jesus? Because He is the King of a kingdom that will never end, and He invites us to follow Him—not just for our own sake, but for the sake of the world He loves.

Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV UK)
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
