Who Are We?

Every church has its own personality. This page gives you a sense of ours—what we believe, our vision and values, the direction we’re heading, how we grow as disciples, and the organisations we partner with.

Of course, words can only go so far. To really get to know us, come along to the Hub on a Sunday or join us at one of our community events.

What we believe

We hold to core Christian beliefs, which are that:

  • The God who made the universe cares deeply about every single person. But, because humanity turned its back on God, we’ve made a mess of the world—and of our own lives too.

  • God stepped into history as a human being in Jesus, whose story is told in the Bible. He showed us what perfect love looks like, even laying down his life for his friends.

  • Jesus invites each of us to follow him (to become his disciple), swapping our brokenness for what he calls “life in all its fullness”—a life that begins now and lasts beyond the grave.

We share the core beliefs set out in the Evangelical Alliance’s Basis of Faith. The Evangelical Alliance is a network that brings together thousands of churches across the UK, helping us stand alongside others who follow Jesus and work together for good.

Our Vision is to multiply fully-devoted disciples of Jesus.

Matthew 4:19 (NIV UK)
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”

Our Values

In pursuit of our vision , we have adopted four fundamental values.

Bible Saturated

We read and study the Bible to discover more about God and his plans. We seek to apply its teaching to how we live our lives.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV UK)
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Reliant on The Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third person of God (together with the Father and Jesus). He lives in Jesus’s disciples and empowers us to become more like him.

John 14:26 (NIV UK)
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

Expectant in Prayer

When we pray, we expect to hear God speaking to us, and we expect to see him act in the world in response to our prayers.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV UK)
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

People Focused

We seek to connect with, love and treat each person as a unique individual made in the image of God

Romans 12:10 (NIV UK)
“Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves.”

Our Direction

At the start of 2025, as we reflected on this verse from Psalm 37:

“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

we sensed God telling us to pursue twin goals of “Growing Deeper and Going Further”.  We continue to seek God’s guidance for how this can be worked out in the life of the church.  In the Equpping section of this website we provide a number of resources connected with these goals.

Growing Deeper is about deepening our relationship with God, through spiritual practices such as worship, prayer, bible reading, fasting, giving, observing sabbath, meeting together and going on retreats.

Colossians 2:6-7 (NIV UK)
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”

Going Further is about stepping out in faith in response to God’s prompting. This could involve anything from talking to a friend or colleague about Jesus, volunteering in the church or travelling overseas on mission.

Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV UK)
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Discipleship Pathways

Discipleship is a lifelong journey of learning to follow Jesus more closely. It’s not something we do alone—we need each other’s encouragement, challenge, and support along the way. As a church, we’re always looking for ways to help one another grow as disciples. One model we’ve found especially helpful is Reach, Restore, Release.

  • Reaching is about connecting with people, especially those who may feel far from God or from faith. It means extending a genuine welcome and sharing the good news of Jesus in real, relational ways.

  • Restoring focuses on the healing and renewal that comes through Christ. It’s about God’s power and the church community working together to bring wholeness where there has been hurt—spiritually, emotionally, and relationally.

  • Releasing is about empowering people to step into all God has made them to be. It means equipping them to live out their faith in everyday life, to serve others, and to make a difference in their community and the wider world.

Caring for the Planet

God made the earth to provide an amazing home for the human race. He also gave us a responsibility to look after it. When we fail, this leads to pollution, global warming and more severe “natural” disasters. The cost of this falls disproportionately on the poor. We encourage all those who attend Gold Hill to consider how to minimise their own adverse impact on the environment. Gold Hill has been awarded a Bronze Eco Church Award.
